Team Profile
Current IRB Sevens Rugby World Cup Champions, Wales have won the Plate in both Gold Coast and South African tournaments so far this series. They will be hoping to make it past the Cup quarter finals in Wellington to boost them on the points table and also put them in contention of Cup honours. Sevens is growing in Wales, with exciting young tryscoring talent Owen Williams making his mark and teenager Harry Robinson making such an impression in the first three round of the HSBC Sevens World Series he’ll miss the Hertz Sevens to go to Warren Gatland’s training squad for the RBS Six Nations.

Our team’s love affair with the Welsh has been going on well before the Hertz Sevens 2012 and started with a little help from a passionate Welsh uncle named Bob.
So, hello! We are the Wales Whales, made up of seven friends from that big city just North of Hamilton. We have our team captain Dev whose love of farmers and cowboy boots is second-to-none, her sister Caity, the most epic wing woman you will ever meet and the baby of the group. Next is their cousin Bridie, who is in fact herself a Welsh woman and Em whose claim to fame was winning $60 at the races one year by betting on a horse called Charlie the Unicorn. Then we have Ange who is gears and loves the colour beige, Sully our resident Angry Boys fan who can elbow slap with the best of them (ask her, she’ll show you) and Maddog who loves quizzes and pronouncing Taupo correctly… it’s Toe Paw by the way.
With three nurses, two commerce graduates, a masters student and one who works in communications and media we have a vast array of skills to bring to Wellington this year. Not to mention our epic cheering skills (just try and outdo us in a talking competition) and our ‘at least we try’ dance moves.
So get amongst and support us and the Welsh team at the Hertz Sevens 2012.
We’re keeping it easy and sticking with a classic chant, W….A….L….E….S. Check out our Facebook page too.
