Cheerleader Competition Terms & Conditions
How to enter:
-
To enter the competition, upload a video of your cheerleading squad performing a cheerleading routine in support of one of the 16 sevens rugby teams competing in the 2012 Hertz Sevens (“the Teams”) to www.Sevens.co.nz, and complete the entry form.
- A cheerleading squad can include up to seven people (a Captain and up to 6 friends).
- As part of the entry details, entrants will be required to choose their preferred team to support, plus a second and third option.
- The Teams are; Argentina, Australia, Canada, England, Fiji, France, Kenya, New Zealand, Samoa, Scotland, South Africa, United States, Wales, Tonga, Japan and Cook Islands.
- All videos uploaded will undergo a moderation process to ensure that they meet the video requirements below before they are officially published to the ‘Entries Gallery’’ on www.Sevens.co.nz. Only videos that pass moderation and are successfully published to the ‘Entries Gallery’’ will be deemed to be part of the competition.

Video entries will also be posted by the Promoter on the NZ International Sevens’ YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/user/WellingtonSevens
- Cheerleading squads can enter multiple routines in to the competition. Individuals can be members of more than one squad entering the competition, but cannot be a member of more than one of the 16 finalist squads selected.
- Competition is open from Tuesday 4 October 2011 to 5pm Monday 5 December 2011 (extended from 5pm Friday 4 November 2011).
- Entries received outside of these dates will not be accepted into the competition.
Video requirements:
- Videos must be no longer than 90 seconds and involve a cheerleading routine that supports one of the Teams.
- Videos must meet the technical specifications required by the YouTube Website.
- Videos must comply with the “YouTube Community Guidelines” set forth at www.youtube.com/t/community_guidelines, or not contain any material determined by the Promoter to be objectionable or undesirable.
4. In particular, videos must NOT:
4.1. contain material which is sexually explicit, obscene, pornographic, violent, discriminatory (based on race, sex, religion, natural origin, physical disability, sexual orientation or age), offensive, or profane each as determined by The Promoter; or
4.2. contain material which, in the opinion of the Promoter, inappropriately promotes any commercial brand or entity, or which inappropriately suggests or attempts to suggest a commercial association with the Tournament.
Judging and notification:
- The 16 competition finalist cheerleader squads will be chosen by a panel of judges. The squads will be selected based on the opinion of the judging panel, with the number of Facebook ‘’likes’’ applicable to a video’s Facebook posting as at 5pm Monday 5 December 2011 (extended from 5pm Friday 4 November 2011) to be taken into account.
- Judging will commence on Wednesday 7 December 2011. One cheerleader squad will be announced as the competition finalist to represent each of the Teams. Three reserve squads will also be chosen.
- The 16 competition finalist cheerleader squads and 3 reserve squads will be notified by email or phone by Thursday 8 December 2011, and will be sent an acknowledgement / release for all members of the squad to sign.
- To confirm selection as one of the 16 competition finalists, the chosen cheerleader squads must be in Wellington for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of February and available to take part in the entire period of the 2012 NZ International Sevens tournament. All members of each cheerleader squad must be available to attend a NZ International Sevens cheerleader briefing session on the afternoon of Thursday February 2nd 2012 after the Street Parade in Wellington (time approximately 1.30pm).
- If a competition finalist cheerleader squad has not confirmed selection and their availability by 5pm on Monday 12 December 2011, or has provided incorrect contact details, one of the reserve squads, as decided by the panel of judges, will be chosen to replace that squad.
- The names (including names of the members), and footage or still images from the videos of the 16 competition finalist cheerleader squads may be published on the following websites: www.Sevens.co.nz and www.WellingtonNZ.com and in any associated newsletters/collateral of the NZ International Sevens, Wellington Rugby Limited and Positively Wellington Tourism’s Social Media networks.
Materials/rights in submission:
Every person who enters a video into the competition hereby grants The Promoter the non-exclusive, irrevocable, fully paid, universal license to use, copy, sublicense, transmit, distribute, publicly perform, publish, delete or display such a video, or any portion thereof. That person also warrants that it has the authority to grant the Promoter those rights.
Entrants agree that squad and member names may be posted on the Contest Website (www.Sevens.co.nz) and the YouTube Website in connection with the Contest.
By participating in the competition and providing a video, each member of an entrant team hereby grants permission (except where prohibited by law) for The Promoter to use his/her name, YouTube user name if any, likeness, voice, quotes, comments, biographical information, photograph and/or image for the purpose of advertising, trade, or promotion without further compensation or consideration in any and all media now known or hereafter developed throughout the world and upon request, to the giving of consent (by a parent or legal guardian if necessary), in writing, to all such uses. Except as required by law or permitted pursuant to these terms and conditions, The Promoter will not share an entrant's information with any third parties.
Cheerleader Experience Prize details:
- The prize is for 16 cheerleader squads (each comprising of a captain and up to 6 people) to be the official cheerleader squads for the 2012 NZ International Sevens, with tickets to the tournament provided.
- If a member(s) of a winning cheerleader squad already has a ticket to the 2012 NZ International Sevens the ticket will be refunded. The tickets can alternatively be passed on to a third party, but cannot be on-sold at a price greater than the face-value of the ticket.
- Each cheerleader squad will be assigned one of the 16 sevens rugby teams competing in the 2012 NZ International Sevens to support. The 16 squads will each be allocated an aisle within Westpac Stadium as cheerleader support zones. The cheerleader squads will be responsible for generating support from fans for their assigned team within their designated aisle.
- The Promoter reserves the right to specify which Team a winning cheerleader squad will support. While the Promoter will endeavour to match squads with their first choice Team, this may not be possible in all cases.
- Travel, accommodation and other incidental costs associated with claiming the prizes and attendance at the tournament, are the responsibility of the winning cheerleader squads.
- As part of accepting the terms of the competition the cheerleader squads will be required to take part in the following activities during the 2012 NZ International Sevens:
NZ International Sevens Tournament Cheer Routines: Perform the cheer routine for their assigned team at such times as when the team runs out onto the field and/or during each match the team plays during the 2012 NZ International Sevens (each team will play 5 or 6 matches during the two days of the tournament). The cheerleading squads will perform their routines from their assigned aisle, and at designated times down on the Westpac Stadium field in-front of their assigned aisles. Every endeavour will be made to ensure that the cheerleader squad’s routines are shown on one of the Westpac Stadium big screens.
NZ International Sevens Parade of Nations: Each cheerleader squad will nominate one representative to take part with other cheerleader team representatives in the player and other representative parade know as the ‘Parade of Nations’ on the Westpac Stadium field during the evening of Friday February 4th 2011.
NZ International Sevens Cheerleader Team Briefing Session: There will be an official NZ International Sevens Cheerleader squad briefing session on Thursday February 2nd 2012 at a
NZI Sevens Street Parade: While not compulsory, ideally each of the 16 finalist cheerleader squads will take part in the 2012 NZ International Sevens Street Parade in downtown
7. The prizes are not transferable, exchangeable or redeemable for cash.
8. In the event that the cheerleader experience cannot be delivered for one or more of the official Cheerleader squads for reasons beyond The Promoter’s control, the Promoter will not have any liability to the squad/s or any member thereof.
9. The Promoter and their agents are not responsible for any loss or damage whatsoever that is suffered (including but not limited to indirect or consequential loss) or for personal injury suffered or sustained during the course of the competition, in accepting the prize, or in attending or participating in the Tournament or associated events.
10. The selection of the winning squads is final and correspondence will not be entered into.
11. The competition is open to those 18 years of age and older only. All team members must be over the age of 18 years at the time of the NZ International Sevens Street Parade on 2 February 2012.
12. Changes to membership of any squad can only be made with the Promoter’s prior approval.
13. The competition is only open to New Zealand residents.
14. Staff of The Promoter, Positively Wellington Tourism, the New Zealand Rugby Union, Sparks Interactive, and The Radio Network who have worked directly on the project are not eligible to enter
Grand Prize details:
- During the week of the 2012 NZ International Sevens (Monday January 30th – Saturday February 4th 2012) the general public will be able to vote for their favourite finalist cheerleader squad by text message.
- The text message voting will close on Saturday February 4th 2012 (time to be confirmed based on game draw). The three cheerleader squads with the most votes will be become finalists, and the winner will be decided by a panel of judges based on crowd participation, effort, and performance. The overall winner will win $7,000 cash, deposited into a bank account nominated by the winning squad. The runner-up cheerleader squad will win $700 cash, deposited into a bank account nominated by the runner-up team..
- The winning and runner-up cheerleader squads will be announced by 7:30pm on Saturday February 4th 2012 at Westpac Stadium
General terms and conditions:
- By participating, each member of each entrant squad agrees that The Promoter and each of their respective agents, representatives, parent companies (including the NZRU), affiliates, subsidiaries and legal advisors, and each of their respective employees, shareholders, officers, and directors are not responsible or liable for, and shall be released and held harmless from : (i) late, lost, delayed, damaged, incomplete, illegible, unintelligible, misdirected or otherwise undeliverable mail, postage-due notices, release forms, affidavits or other correspondence; (ii) telephone, electronic, hardware or software program, network, Internet or computer malfunctions, failures, or difficulties of any kind; (iii) any condition caused by events beyond the control of the The Promoter that may cause the Contest to be disrupted or corrupted; (iv) any printing, human, typographical or other errors or ambiguities in (or involving) any materials associated with the Contest; (v) any and all losses, damages, rights, claims and actions of any kind in connection with or resulting from participation in the Contest; (vi) acceptance, possession, or use of any grant or prize (or any portion thereof, including any travel related thereto), including without limitation, personal injury, death and property damage arising therefrom; and (vii) claims based on publicity rights, defamation or invasion of privacy.
- The Promoter reserves the right, in their sole discretion, to suspend or cancel the Contest at any time for any reason, including, without limitation, if a computer virus, bug or other technical problem corrupts the administration, security, or proper conduct of the Contest, strikes, lock-outs, acts of God, technical difficulties, and other events not within the reasonable control of The Promoter.
- The Promoter reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to prohibit any participant from participating in the Contest or to disqualify any individual they find, in their sole determination, to be tampering with the entry process or the operation of the Contest; to be attempting to undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest by cheating, hacking, deception, or any other unfair playing practices; to be acting in violation of these terms and conditions; to be acting in a disruptive manner, or with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person; to be acting in a manner which may detrimentally effect the reputation of the Promoter or the Tournament; or to be acting contrary to the directions of the Promoter or the rules of the Tournament or the Venue Authority.
- The Promoter may suspend or discontinue the Contest if, in its sole opinion, there is any actual or suspected tampering relating to the Contest, or any other malfunction, event or activity that may affect the integrity of the Contest.
- The Promoter is Wellington Rugby Limited, in association with Positively Wellington Tourism.
- By entering the promotion, entrants accept the terms and conditions stated above.
